Case Study: Maverick Laser

Maverick Laser is a new business located in Tucson, AZ.   Maverick will provide various laser
processing services for a number of industries, including machine job shops, electronic
components, medical devices, automotive and aerospace industries.

Challenge
Maverick Laser is a spin-off business from a previous client. The client wanted to split their
laser processing business into its own separate company, and needed to go through the
strategic planning process to develop the plan for the spin-off. They also retained Dyer
Consulting Group to create a business plan that they could use to secure the necessary funding
from investors.

Solution
DCG assisted management in the development of a strategic approach and associated business
plan. This plan focused the company on leveraging their current contacts in the industry and
the hiring of a direct calling sales person.   We then completed a comprehensive business plan
and established financial projections for the new entity.

Results
Initial investments from internal and industry sources resulted in the acquisition of over 70% of
the required capital. The client took the plan to potential investors in August 2008 and raised
the capital that was projected to be needed. Because of the good response to the business
opportunity, the company revised the business plan to be more aggressive and expanded the
offering to additional potential investors, resulting in an additional $35,000.
