therapy and nutritional coaching. The owner has significant experience with various
orthopedic injuries, chronic conditions, blood sugar issues, and weight loss. The Studio
believes in helping people reach their goals through realistic lifestyle changes.

Challenge
The Studio is a new business located in Hawaii.  The owner had significant experience working
for a similar company, but after she moved to Hawaii, she wanted to start up her own
business.  Being new to the world of entrepreneurship, and also new to the area, she needed
assistance in developing a comprehensive business plan to help launch the company, with
emphasis on the Marketing and Financial plans.

Solution
We assisted the business owner in the development of a strategic plan and the associated
business plan.  The plan looked at ways for the Studio to get traffic through their door and to
maximize the profit potential of each customer. This meant looking at several different
revenue streams for the business.  With the health and wellness of employees being a very hot
topic, it was decided that an area of emphasis for the Studio would be to look for
opportunities to do group nutritional programs for employees through HR departments.  A
thorough and well laid out Action Plan was developed for the owner to follow, with follow up
meetings scheduled with Dyer Consulting Group to hold the owner accountable for following
through with the Plan.

Results
The business was launched in April 2008 and has seen significant growth. Some results to date:

  • The business is ahead of financial plan by 41% in revenues and 83% in net profits
  • 3 additional Pilates classes have been added due to higher than anticipated demand
  • The goal of 4 nutritional seminars by the end of 2008 with local businesses has been
    achieved, with proposals out to numerous others
  • The higher priced/higher margin "private" sessions have seen more demand than
    anticipated
  • Additional staff has been hired to meet the increased demand
