Case Study:  Strategic Mortgage (SM)

Challenge
Strategic Mortgage came to Dyer Consulting Group to have us assist them with their strategic
planning and to help them develop a new sales and marketing plan.  SM had been successful,
but wanted to get a more consistent deal flow, to be able to communicate better and more
often with their customer/prospect list, develop better strategic alliances, improve their
speed in processing loans, and to develop a better system to handle compliance issues that
they needed to get their arms around.

Solution
We completed a comprehensive strategic planning session with SM.  The session started out
with a SWOT analysis of SM’s business.  We then moved into creating a Mission Statement
centered on the “Customer for Life” philosophy.  We assisted SM with the development of
goals, objectives and strategies to take advantage of the analysis that was identified during
the SWOT analysis.  A tangible Action Plan was developed so that there were detailed,
measurable projects that each person was responsible for.   

Results
After the strategic planning session was complete and the Action Plan had been implemented,
SM’s business increased by 21%.  Some of the items that SM implemented were:

  • An expansion of their web presence that allowed customers to request rate quotes and
    find additional information through resources like articles and economy information
  • The building of a database that is searchable by Loan program, Rate, Person, Zip, etc
  • SM could search for deals that have a certain rate or program that would be a good
    candidate for a refinance and then send that customer a customized email about
    what they could possibly save or do by refinancing
  • The development of a newsletter to send to their data base once a month
  • Partner with businesses with complimentary services like credit repair and insurance
  • Focus on advanced technology to close loans more quickly and cheaper
